Configuring Skill Templates

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Create skill templates to set specific focus on skills for individual teams, positions, and players
  • Explain how to make analysis that show how often a skill has been trained by a player

Analyzing Training Skills and Skill Categories

The definition of a player's required skills for their player profile lays the foundation for the achievement of a player's targets for the respective season. This is also linked to the fulfillment of the two overarching training management visions of the clubs.

The creation of all basic skills that are important for professional football as well as the youth sector has already been dealt with in the Considering Basics for Training Management unit. The skills were also subdivided into the respective skill areas. In the next step, we are in the phase of the start of the season. With the help of SAP Sports One, it can be individually determined for which age group and player position each skill from the skill catalog is required. This is very important because players need different skills, depending on the age group or the position they play. This definition of skills can be mapped in SAP Sports One through skill templates.

Note

To be able to create and manage the skill templates, you need the role of administrator or coach and the corresponding permission for the skill catalog. An overview of all SAP Sports One user roles is available on the SAP Help Portal (User Roles | SAP Help Portal).

If you have the required permissions, you can create skill templates in SAP Sports One at Skills in the catalog.

To create a skill template, switch to the edit mode and select the team and the position for which a skill template should be created.

Afterwards, you can select the required skills for the template from the list on the left-hand side. To add the selected skills to the skill template, simply use the drag and drop function. You have the option of adding both individual skills folders and previously created entire skill folders to the template.

You can arrange the skills in the template and delete them if necessary. In addition, you can add an expected value to assess how good a player should already be in terms of this skill for this player profile and team age. This allows you to assess whether or not the skill is essential for the player profile and the team age.

Overview of Trained Skills with Analytics

After determining which skills are expected for a specific team, position and player within the current season, it is essential for the coaching team to check whether the player trains on these skills over a certain period of time and therefore works on himself in these skill areas.

Note

The verification of the skills can be ensured by linking specific skills to a training exercise. The creation of training exercises and linking them to the skills will also be shown in a simulation later in this learning Unit.

The combination of skills and training exercises allows extensive training management analysis to be made later when creating training sessions. As an example we are able to illustrate, which skills a player has trained over a certain period of time. This also creates the basis for analysis, which is later important for determining the training focus and fine-tuning in the micro planning process.

The figure below shows an analysis of how many minutes a certain skill category was trained by a player over a certain period of time. The best practice skill categories from Unit 2 - Considering Basics for Training Management, such as technique, tactics and athletics, were used as the underlying skill categories for this example.

In addition to analyzing the training frequency of specific skill categories, individual skills within these skill areas can also be analyzed. A drilldown can be used for this, which makes it possible to drill down into the skills of a skill category. This possibility in the analysis can be offered due to the fact that we have carried out and enabled a hierarchical structuring of the skill categories in the initial skill management setup in Unit 2 - Considering Basics for Training Management.

The figure below shows an analysis of how many minutes a certain skill was trained which is related to the skill category of Technique_OFF.
