In training management, a fundamental distinction is made between macro planning and micro planning. The main difference between these aspects of training management lies in the time perspective and the level of detail of the planning. The Planning Training Management: Macro Planning unit already dealt with macro planning as the first step of training management planning. If you have not already completed this unit on macro planning, it is recommended that you do so before starting this unit on micro planning.
Macro planning in training management refers to planning the long-term development targets of the players and the team. Here, long-term training plans for longer season periods are created to prepare the players for the challenges of the upcoming period and to enable better planning of training management process. Macro planning could also include identifying development areas for the whole team and setting rough training objectives.
In contrast, micro planning in training management now refers to the design of individual training sessions. Here, specific exercises and activities are developed to improve the technical, tactical, physical or mental aspects of the game. Micro planning can also include the adaptation of trainings based on the current condition of the players and their individual needs.
This unit will focus on micro planning in training management. Micro planning can, for example, include the following activities:
- Planning of specific training sessions in macro planning period
- Specifying detailed training focuses and objectives
- Structuring of the weekly training plan and sequence of the individual units for players' intensity regulation
- Load planning of players depending on performance data and personal feedback to ensure flexibility
- Specifying training types to depict, for example, rehab training the day after a match
- Specifying training groups to set individual priorities for specific players
- Planning individual training sessions
These activities will be described in more detail in this unit. You will also learn how the micro planning process for training management can be depicted and managed in SAP Sports One.
This sample structure of a team's micro planning includes more detailed and specified training objectives.
Note
This figure does not yet represent the full scope of micro planning. Rather, there are many other possibilities in the implementation of micro planning. Further considerations, such as the detailed planning of specific exercises that fit the set training objectives as well as the player and intensity planning of the training sessions and exercises, are further explained and discussed in the Documenting Trainings in SAP Sports One unit. This unit deals with the creation of training sessions to represent the full scope of micro planning.
