Creating Tracking Parameters

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Create tracking parameters to track players performance
  • Configure ACWR for existing tracking parameters to track load of players

Creation of Tracking Parameters

Another task that arises at the start of a season, in addition to documenting the training exercises, is the creation of the tracking parameters. The tracking parameters are needed to track and monitor the performance data of a player over the season. These data were determined during training sessions or matches by tracking providers. Moreover, the tracking parameters are used to depict the individual development of a players to monitor the status of fulfillment of a club's visions. The creation and use of tracking parameters thus offers many insights for the analysis phase.

Tracking parameters are not only used for long-term observation and player development. They can also be used for load planning, which mainly refers to a very short period of time. The information about a player's load provides the basis for planning future training sessions.

Note

The creation of the folder structure for the performance parameter catalog as well as for the tracking folder is described in the Considering Basics for Training Management unit.

The following simulation guides you through the process of creating tracking parameters in the performance parameter catalog.

Note

To be able to manage the performance parameter in SAP Sports One, you need the role of administrator and the corresponding permissions. An overview of all SAP Sports One user roles is available on the SAP Help Portal (User Roles | SAP Help Portal).

As a best practice, we suggest the following configurations for tracking parameters in SAP Sports One.

Hint

As already mentioned in the Considering Basics for Training Management unit, it is advisable to name the folders and parameters according to the respective tracking provider. Then, even when integrating several providers and using the same category for the parameters, a distinction can be made in SAP Sports One.

ACWR Configuration

Fundamental for the load planning process is not only the accumulation of pure performance data, but also the definition of threshold values for the parameters. These threshold values define the load ranges of the players at which an overload or underload occurs.

In SAP Sports One, the way the thresholds are defined and the corresponding minimum and maximum ratio values can be decided individually for each tracking parameter. The acute chronic workload ratio (ACWR) configuration is used for this purpose.

Note

To be able to manage the ACWR of a tracking parameter, you need the role of administrator and the corresponding permissions. An overview of all SAP Sports One user roles is available on the SAP Help Portal (User Roles | SAP Help Portal).

If you have the required permissions, you can create an ACWR configuration in SAP Sports One at Acute:Chronic Workload Ratio Configuration in the admin section.

When creating a new configuration, you can select a tracking parameter from the performance parameter catalog created before. As a next step, select the time dimension as well as the corresponding acute and chronic time values that are relevant for the calculation of the workload ratio for this tracking parameter. Days, weeks, sessions, and days in which a session took place can be selected as time dimensions.

By determining the acute and chronic time values, it is possible to determine how the data for this tracking parameter has developed in the recent past (acute value) compared to the distant past (chronic value). This gives an indication of the player's current load of the player.

The performance data of the acute and chronic time horizons then results in a ratio of acute and chronic value. In SAP Sports One, you can define an individual value range for this ratio and mark it with color and text. This allows you to answer the question of when a player is overloaded or underloaded for individual tracking parameters.

An example of a possible ACWR configuration is depicted below.

The creation of ACWR configurations for the tracking parameters is important for training management. It enables the load of the players to be recognized when planning a training session in the Training Planner and makes it possible to regulate the load immediately. ACWR configurations also play an important role in the analysis phase, for example, in reducing the risk of injury through load planning.
